Transitions… how do we even begin to list what these can be!? So many varying changes meet this criterion, don’t they.
By definition, via Dictionary.com, a transition is a “movement, passage, or change from one position, state, stage, subject, concept, etc., to another; change.”
Is it any wonder then, that it is difficult to fully grasp how transitions impact our lives? Change is inevitable and always occurring at some level; our challenge is how to adapt, accommodate, modify (if necessary and possible), and journey through the transition/s.
Sometimes I describe my work as a therapist as a “roadside sign holder” wherein as people journey through, I may be holding up, Caution or Slow Down or maybe even Stop or Wrong Way. Likewise, I may be holding up, Ease of Access Ahead or Detour or Right of Way.
All of this to say that when we are going through transitions, our neurobiology can be overwhelmed by the new situation and having a trained therapist help you listen to your heart and use your mind to focus on your decision-making can be very advantageous for adaption so that you can feel restored to your true self even in new circumstances.
